👋 Welcome! What if the real story isn’t job loss—but job creation? Today we explore whether AI is quietly opening doors instead of closing them.

AI & TECH

AI Shields British Athletes Online Abuse UK Sport is rolling out an AI app that auto-hides hateful comments across major platforms, giving thousands of athletes real-time protection through LA 2028. The tool scans millions of slurs, filters replies instantly, and lets users mute triggers—though X remain unguarded.

Spies Spying On Spies — A report says Intellexa secretly accessed hacked phones via client systems, letting staff see victims’ messages, photos, and locations. Amnesty found leaked videos showing live spying through remote tools, fueling fears that spyware companies may watch targets too.

Milky Way Twin, Too Early Indian astronomers used the James Webb Space Telescope to spot a fully formed spiral galaxy from when the universe was just 1.5 billion years old. The Milky Way–like find, named Alaknanda, suggests galaxies matured far faster than models predict, reshaping ideas about how stars assembled.

CAREER & GROWTH

Laid Off? Do This First — As layoffs surge, experts urge newly unemployed workers to apply for unemployment benefits immediately. Early filing helps stabilize cash flow while people reassess budgets and job hunt. Waiting can mean unnecessary financial strain at the worst possible moment, especially as hiring slows nationwide.

AI Grows Jobs, Huang Says — Nvidia’s Jensen Huang argues AI grows work by reframing roles around outcomes, not tasks. He cites radiology: once forecast to vanish, the field hired more as AI sped image reading and expanded demand. His takeaway: adapt with tools, don’t fear them—jobs shift, multiply, and reward.

VC Careers Start With Stories — Masha Bucher says today’s investors win by mastering storytelling, not just spreadsheets. Her path from PR to VC shaped a model merging funding with hands-on communications, helping founders move fast, build trust, and craft narratives that attract talent and partners from day one.

MONEY IN MOTION

Meta May Pull the Plug on Metaverse SpendingMeta is weighing cuts of up to 30% to its Metaverse budget, including layoffs, as weak adoption of VR worlds and headsets persists. The shift signals a strategic retreat toward AI and smart glasses, after years of heavy losses and growing investor pressure.

VCs Crown AI’s Early KingsTop venture firms are flooding select AI startups with huge early checks to manufacture market leaders overnight. Deals like $90 million Series A rounds at million revenue aim to intimidate rivals, sway buyers, and lock ecosystems early, even as history warns capital cannot guarantee dominance.

Nexus Bets on Balance, Not Hype — Instead of pouring everything into AI, India–US firm Nexus Venture Partners is splitting its new $700M fund between AI and India-focused startups in fintech, consumer, and DI. The strategy hedges against an overheated AI market while leaning into India’s fast-growing digital economy.

BIG THINK

When Machines Make Jobs: The upside nobody talks about enough

When the rise of AI is discussed, a frequent image is one of job destruction — robots, automation, layoffs. But a closer look at 2025 data and expert analysis suggests a more nuanced truth: AI might be less about ending work and more about reshaping and creating new kinds of work. For many people, that shift isn’t a threat — it's a chance to step into roles that didn’t exist a few years ago, and to leverage human skills in new, more valuable ways.

In the most recent PwC 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer, there’s evidence that AI adoption is boosting productivity, which in turn is increasing demand for workers — even in sectors thought to be most automatable. Similarly, research shows that while AI-powered automation may replace some low-skill or routine tasks, it tends to complement human workers rather than fully replace them — leading to an increase in demand for new skills, new job categories, and new opportunities.

What kinds of jobs are we talking about? With AI amplifying human output, there’s a growing need for people who can oversee, interpret, and collaborate with AI: AI-ethics officers, human-AI workflow designers, prompt engineers, data-quality specialists, people-oriented roles that combine technical knowledge with emotional, ethical or creative judgment. In many cases, these jobs draw on “complementary skills” — creativity, judgment, empathy, adaptability — qualities where humans outperform machines.

At the same time, AI-driven job creation depends not only on technology but on how societies respond. The 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) forecast included modest but real net gains: while some jobs are lost or transformed, many more are created or redefined — especially when companies invest in reskilling, human-AI collaboration, and flexible hiring grounded in skills rather than narrow credentials. Furthermore, in many economies, AI adoption hasn’t led to widespread unemployment — instead it's driven shifts in work patterns, skill demand, and new forms of employment.

Of course, this isn’t a utopia. Not everyone benefits equally. People in routine, low-skilled jobs may face disruption; if they don’t adapt, they could struggle. But for people who are willing to learn, adapt, and leverage human-centric skills, the potential is real: AI may not be the end of work — but the beginning of new possibilities. The question isn’t just whether AI will create jobs, but what kind of jobs, and who will shape them.

In the end, if we treat AI as a partner — one that augments human effort rather than replacing it — the future of work could be richer, more varied, and more meaningful. Instead of fearing job loss, we might embrace job transformation. Instead of competing with machines, we could collaborate with them — and build something new together.

Actionable Insights

  1. Future-proof yourself with human strengths—double down on what AI copies poorly: communication, creativity, leadership, and emotional intelligence.

  2. Build an optimized “human + AI” workflow for your job—take one weekly task and redesign it using AI as a tool, not a replacement.
