πWelcome! The smarter our tools become, the more valuable certain human qualities appear. Today's post explores why communication, judgment, leadership, and relationship-building are rising in importance as AI spreads through the workplace.
AI & TECH
π€ Microsoft CEO AI Dominance Could 'Hollow Out' Industries
MS Satya Nadella warned against ceding control and economic value to a small handful of AI dominant firms. Comparing the current transition to the early waves of globalization, he noted that while globalization boosted overall economic metrics, it severely damaged specific economies. He emphasized the need for a "frontier ecosystem" rather than just isolated frontier models.
π€ Apple Drops Hints for Upcoming 'iPhone Fold'
Apple's recent app updates and dev guidelines strongly suggest the imminent launch of a foldable smartphone, potentially named the "iPhone Ultra." Native iOS apps are receiving adaptive landscape modes, and Apple recently urged devs to design for a "dynamic range of sizes and aspect ratios." Though officially unconfirmed, these clues support rumors of a September 2026 release.
π€ Power Constraints Could Halt Data Center Growth by 2030
A new Gartner report indicates that skyrocketing energy requirements, rather than chip shortages, could bring AI data center expansion to a grinding halt by 2030. Global data center capacity demands are projected to more than double, shifting the AI scaling race toward power security and efficiency, and prompting companies like Nvidia to prioritize metrics like "tokens per watt".
π€ Satellite Uses Onboard VLM to Detect Targets Autonomously
In a space industry first, Loft Orbital's YAM-9 satellite successfully used an onboard vision-language model to independently identify ground targets using natural language queries. The satellite processed sensor data directly in orbit rather than beaming raw data to Earth. This milestone paves the way for "always-on" orbital patrol layers and interactive AI assistants for astronauts, with competitors also actively developing in-orbit AI compute.

CAREER & GROWTH
π Leading Job Sites Selling Sensitive User Data
Study reveals that a majority of leading job-search and networking platforms are selling sensitive user information to third parties, leaving millions of job seekers vulnerable. ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, and Monster are ranked as the highest for data collection and sharing practices. Despite these risks, 37% of workers falsely believe their data is only shared with potential employers.
π AI Scaling Drives Surge in Demand for "Human" Skills
AI integration is accelerating job and wage growth, with AI-exposed roles experiencing double the job growth and 42% faster wage growth. Labor productivity among heavy adopters has surged by 163% since 2018. Thus, employers are placing a premium on uniquely human capabilities. AI-exposed entry-level positions are now 7x more likely to require senior-level soft skills.
π The AI Layoff Wave Sparks Backlash Amid Record Insider Wealth
Tech companies are laying off tens of thousands of workers, while often citing AI as the official explanation. However, ndustry insiders argue that AI is a "silver bullet excuse" masking pandemic-era overhiring and mismanagement. This rising wave of job losses is creating a societal powder keg, contrasting with record corporate profits, billionaire-minting AI IPOs, and a squeezed middle class.

BIG THINK
AI Is Making Human Skills More Valuable, Not Less

For years, the popular story around AI has been about replacement. Machines would automate tasks, jobs would disappear, and technical expertise would become the only skill that mattered. Yet a surprising pattern is emerging in 2026. As AI becomes better at handling routine work, many organizations are placing greater value on distinctly human abilities: communication, judgment, leadership, creativity, adaptability, and emotional intelligence.
Part of the reason is simple. AI excels at processing information, generating drafts, and completing repetitive cognitive tasks. What it struggles with is deciding which problems matter, navigating ambiguity, building trust, and leading people through uncertainty. LinkedIn's 2026 Skills on the Rise report found that many of the fastest-growing workplace skills are human-centered, including leadership, stakeholder communication, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration. As technology becomes embedded in everyday work, the ability to coordinate people and communicate clearly is becoming more valuable, not less.
This trend is showing up in hiring data as well. According to PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer, employers increasingly expect entry-level workers to possess skills that were once associated with more senior employees, including leadership, team building, emotional intelligence, and strategic decision-making. In AI-exposed occupations, these human capabilities are appearing in job postings far more frequently than they did just a few years ago. As AI handles more routine responsibilities, organizations are asking people to contribute judgment and interpersonal value earlier in their careers.
The shift is also changing what it means to be employable. Upwork's 2026 skills report found that demand for AI-related skills has surged, but hiring for creative, marketing, customer support, and other human-centered expertise remains strong. Rather than replacing human skills, AI is increasingly acting as a layer that sits on top of them. Workers who combine technical literacy with creativity, communication, and problem-solving appear to be in the strongest position.
Perhaps the most interesting development is that AI may be exposing the limits of efficiency itself. A machine can produce an answer instantly, but it cannot decide whether that answer is appropriate for a particular client, team, culture, or situation. Workplace experts continue to point to empathy, ethical judgment, relationship-building, and critical thinking as areas where humans maintain a significant advantage. These are not merely "soft skills." They are increasingly becoming the skills that differentiate people in an AI-rich environment.
The irony is that the more capable AI becomes, the more visible human strengths may become as well. History often assumes that technological progress reduces the importance of people. Yet 2026 is beginning to suggest something different. As machines take on more of the predictable work, the uniquely human qualities that machines struggle to replicate may become some of the most valuable assets in the modern economy. Not because technology failed to advance, but because it did.
